GULF OF MEXICO – Eight members of Congress joined senior Hess leaders earlier this month on a tour of the Hess Stampede facility in the Gulf of Mexico to learn about Hess’ business and the policy issues impacting the asset. The delegation was led by House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La, whose Louisiana district includes Port Fourchon, home of the Hess Shorebase. The visit showcases the importance of the oil and gas industry and the Gulf of Mexico in providing affordable oil and gas, jobs and energy security to the U.S.

After the tour, Scalise’s office posted a press release on his website with a link to photos from the visit and his social media posts.

Leader Scalise last visited Stampede in 2019 and the Hess Tubular Bells asset in 2015 as part of an annual tour to familiarize lawmakers with the energy industry. This year besides Louisiana, representatives who serve Arizona, Florida, Michigan, South Carolina, Texas and Wyoming were on the tour – the 13th for Leader Scalise.

Safety and the overarching importance Hess places on safe, environmentally responsible operations and procedures was a key focus of the tour. In addition to Hess’ strong safety performance, Congressional members learned about the company’s  outstanding environmental record, with industry-leading low levels of greenhouse gas emissions in the Gulf of Mexico. From a policy standpoint, the tour was an opportunity to highlight to lawmakers the importance of offshore development and how the Gulf of Mexico contributes to the global energy mix.

Hess has seven fields in the Gulf of Mexico and is one of the largest operators, based on operated production. The company invested more than $2.6 billion in the Gulf of Mexico between 2015 and 2022.
